Annual Summer Fete – Navenby June 27th
The weather stayed warm and dry and the arena played host to a number of local groups – the Starlight Twirlers, Danielle Rowlinson School of Dance, the Acorn Judo Club, the Micklebarrow Morris Men and pupils from Navenby Primary School, who welcomed everyone with their Rainbow Song and performed some fabulous maypole dancing! With an array of great stalls and attractions (the Cake Stall and Chocolate Fountain were particularly popular!), as well as the privilege of a flypast by a Spitfire of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Congratulations to all the parents of pupils who organised, prepared and ran the event, which has taken place in Navenby in one form or another since the Middle Ages. This year’s Fete raised some £1800, which will be used towards improving the indoor and outdoor play areas at Navenby Primary School. Contribution Sue Hellard
New at University of Lincoln: School of Engineering
The University of Lincoln has received support from HEFCE and Siemens to set up a School of Engineering – believed to be the first in the UK for over 20 years. The School will focus on teaching and research in partnership with key employers, including Siemens and other companies within the city and further afield. The new faculty attracts is an investment of £30m over 10 years.
The 28-day community archaeological dig at Navenby has now ceased. The village revealed spread perhaps 500m along Ermine Street and was very substantial in Roman times. Finds have been impressive, including shop and house walls, street paving, bones, pots, coins, clay roof tiles, probably of a bath house, a henge and eight human burials. Being involved was quite a privilege and ideas are now being considered how to make the finds more available to the public.

More land for housing
At last year’s build rate, North Kesteven has 5 years supply of land already available. However, people have been invited to promote more greenfield sites for building and these have been assessed by a consultant as to their suitability. “Suitable sites go into the Local Development Framework” which will receive a consultation. However, you can add evidence to the records. You can view the maps with these sites and the consultant’s remarks recommendations on www.n-kesteven.gov.uk, planning, forward planning, Local development framework, Strategic Housing land assessment. Also the Lincolnshire Housing Strategy is coming out for consultation on the LCC website from the end of July. It is worth commenting on.
Satisfaction of North Kesteven
90% of people said they were satisfied with their neighbourhood in a recent survey, a nationally high score. The perception of crime was low, which is a great improvement and a commendation to our community policing. By contrast, a national low of 11% were involved in decisions that affect their area in the last 12 months. Could we do more on this?
Sleaford improvements
NKDC is looking at the feasibility of a possible new swimming pool, health centre and library together with a joint reception at the Eastgate. A plan for Sleaford to include the Tesco store is now out for consultation.
