September 2007 Report
SEPTEMBER 2007 Report from Cllr Mrs Marianne Overton
Navenby Village Hub
From 1600 bids for the National Lottery funds, our bid has been “shortlisted” as one of 500. Thank goodness! Further news expected in December.
R U 60? Winter fuel payments
Winter fuel payments (£200 per household) arrive automatically for women after 60, but men with younger wives need to apply if they turn 60 before about September 25th. Ring 0845 9151515 (Over 80 year olds get an extra £100/yr to keep warm, so there is still something to look forward to!)
Free recycling for village halls and schools
Residents of North Kesteven topped the country with a recycling rate of 51.5% of the domestic waste collected by NKDC. The Independent group next turned its attention to trade waste, which currently all goes to landfill. We took up the cause of village halls and pubs who want their recycling waste collected by NKDC in passing, rather than paying for it to all go to landfill. We raised it with officers and visited Caythorpe, who have capacity. In August, the Council agreed to offer a free recycling collection service to village halls, charities, hospitals, residential and nursing homes and caravan sites as is allowed under the law. Commercial properties will be charged for their non-recycling waste, but only at cost. We are still working on something for the pubs, and for larger organisations, but this is a great step forward.
Cumberland Avenue, Wellingore
I am continuing to lobby long and hard for improvements to the parking and emergency access in Cumberland Avenue, Wellingore. The project has been assessed and scores top of the list in terms of need. Thanks to everyone for their support so far.
