Traffic chaos into Lincoln – 11.12.06 Again!
Letter from Karen Watchus
This morning, yet again, thousands of people were stuck in their vehicles in ALL roads into the city, and many of us, turned around and went home, because we cannot tolerate taking two hours to get seven miles! This means I have lost a weeks temp work purely because I could not get to the job, or park in the area I had planned (if you don’t get to the car park by at least 8.15, you have to park miles away and walk in!)
Apparently the chaos was because of a fallen lamppost on Lindum Hill? It only continues to show that drastic problem of the road structure in and around Lincoln and how bad it continues to get.
The announcement that Lincoln, NK, West Lindsey etc are to have to build a further 10460 houses by the year 2026 is only going to make things worse.
Even now the traffic situation is chronic, and I also noted that yet another car park in the city has been built on a car park (the one opposite the museum, which has also been built on the site of a much needed car park!) What kind of sense does that make, destroying car parks and putting office blocks/flats and not providing adequate parking?
One has to continue to ask when city planners and Highways are actually going to acknowledge there is a MAJOR problem with Lincoln NOW, and to ignore the problem is only going to continue to create havoc and may even start to lose business and tourism for the city!
Before any new housing is considered, the road structure has to be reviewed and improved dramatically just to allow existing residents and visitors need to be able to access work and shopping within a reasonable amount of time, let alone new people. The building of 10,460 houses will no doubt bring in well over another 20,000 plus, people and roughly two cars per new family!!! Hence the need for additional car parks as well as adequate roads to take the volumes of traffic!
Putting off the building of the bypasses is not helping matters!
